1. The Serbian Society of Soil Science, SDPZ, brings together science and professional practice in joint action and a shared commitment to the protection, conservation and improvement of soil
  2. SDPZ is a meeting place for more than 100 scientists and professionals from relevant institutions in Serbia and the region.
  3. Since 28 January 2011, SDPZ has been the legal successor of the Yugoslav Society of Soil Science, JDPZ, founded on 8 November 1953 in Belgrade.
  4. Since 1953, the Society has published the scientific journal Soil and Plant, organised congresses and symposia on soil, published various publications, and standardised soil testing methods.
  5. Through the work of several committees, SDPZ addresses all important aspects of soil, from basic research, classification and fertility, to sustainable management, soil protection, and its role in climate action.

Why does this matter?
Soil is a non-renewable natural resource, the foundation of food production, biodiversity conservation and the natural cycles of the planet. Since as much as 95% of the world’s food production depends on soil, and there is no sustainable alternative to this resource, the importance of soil is now rightly coming to the forefront of national and international attention. In the face of climate change, rapid biodiversity loss and pollution, scientific research confirms that effective and accessible solutions lie in soil conservation. At the same time, soil is increasingly exposed to degradation caused by intensive use.

We invite you to become part of our community, join the Society, submit your work to the journal, follow our activities and support initiatives that contribute to the restoration and conservation of soil, because our future depends on how we treat soil today.
