Since 28 January 2011, the Serbian Society of Soil Science, SDPZ, has been the legal successor of the Yugoslav Society of Soil Science, JDPZ, founded on 8 November 1953 in Belgrade. The establishment of the Society is linked to a period of strong institutional and scientific development, when the study of soil was recognised as one of the most important development priorities.
From its very beginnings, the Society was closely connected with the development of pedology as an independent scientific discipline, systematic soil research and the preparation of soil maps, with strong support from universities, institutes and state institutions. Already in its early years, high scientific standards were established, international cooperation was developed, and the scientific journal Soil and Plant was launched. In this way, the Society became a central meeting point for science and professional practice in the field of soil research.
