The publication Assessment of Soil Degradation – Methods and Models, edited by Prof. Dr Snežana Belanović Simić, is one of the most significant and comprehensive editions published by the Serbian Society of Soil Science and the Faculty of Forestry, University of Belgrade. It was developed as the result of many years of scientific work, institutional cooperation and a clear need to bring together contemporary approaches to assessing soil degradation in Serbia and the region.

The monograph was prepared by 55 authors and co-authors from 11 organisations, including universities, institutes and relevant institutions. In this way, it established a strong link between science, professional practice and the public sector, while becoming a representative overview of national capacities in the field of soil protection and management.

The book is structured into five thematic sections with a total of 18 chapters, covering the main degradation processes, physical degradation and erosion, chemical degradation and pollution, biological degradation through changes in organic matter and biodiversity, as well as perspectives for soil conservation through the application of modern data management systems. The publication has a total of 560 pages.

Thanks to the dedicated and visionary editorial work of Prof. Dr Snežana Belanović Simić, this publication is not only an overview of methods and models, but also a strategic contribution to strengthening national capacities for soil monitoring, planning protection measures and making data-based decisions. In this way, the publication goes beyond the scope of a classical monograph and becomes a reference work for students, researchers, advisory services and institutions dealing with agriculture, forestry and environmental protection.
